On occasion, an underwriter may email a quote to an agent outside of the Internet of Insurance. In a situation like this, the agent can update the submission on behalf of the underwriter. Agents are able to perform 3 different tasks when updating on behalf of an underwriter.
- Decline to quote a policy
- Quote a policy
- Issue a policy
1. Declining on Behalf of an Underwriter
To decline a submission on behalf of an underwriter, an agency can select "Decline" following the text "Perform following actions as underwriter" on the submission details page.
The agent will be prompted to select a reason for the declination. Providing additional declination notes is optional.
2. Quoting on Behalf of an Underwriter
To quote a submission on behalf of an underwriter, an agency can select "Quote" following the text "Perform following actions as underwriter" on the submission details page.
The agent will be prompted to use a custom email address when sending or forwarding an email with the underwriter's quote related document attached. This special email address brings the underwriter quote documents into the IOI, allowing agents to keep records of the submission organized online.
A confirmation of the email quote will appear on the submission details page shortly after the email is sent.
3. Issuing a Policy on Behalf of an Underwriter
To issue a policy on behalf of an underwriter, an agent selects the checkbox next to the file or files they want to accept as part of the quote proposal. The agent may then add optional issuing instructions before selecting the "Bind selected documents" button.
After the quote documents have been bound, the quote section of the submission details page will change to show "Issue Policy". The agent may enter policy numbers for each line of coverage that was bound now, or after the policy has been saved by selecting the "Edit Policy" button that appears in the "Issue Policy" section of the Submission Details.
